Teaching Children To Save

The Teach Children to Save Program has been in place for 3 years at Washington Savings Bank. This program consists of  a savings lesson plan which is taught at different schools in the Philadelphia area. Throughout the years we have taught over 5,000 children from grades Kindergarten-8th grade. There are different lesson plans for each grade which ranges from teaching about what money is and the denominations of money, to how you need to plan a budget in a household  lessons as well. Recently Washington Savings Bank has given bank tours to different schools showing students the different areas of  the bank, such as the vault, coin machine, ATM, drive thru. The students also had the opportunity to meet with the loan officer, security officer, accountant, Chief  Financial Officer and the CEO of the bank. Washington Savings has provided transportation for the students, as well as lunch.

This program is beneficial to students, it will make them aware of what is happening in the nation’s economy today, the importance of saving money from a young age, how to prepare a budget, what are necessities in life and what are luxuries where one can save to buy. All the teachers are grateful the banking staff volunteers their time in providing this education.
